This project consisted of designing a magazine layout and practicing requirements for measurements and dimensions of magazine articles. The article I chose was from a list of three scientific articles. The topic of the article I designed was Biomimicry in Architecture and Engineering.
I began researching the topic as well as flipping through magazines to find inspiration for article layouts. After finding inspiration, I knew I wanted the layout to have a modern and easy-to-read design. I started to sketch out the composition and layout of my selected magazine article. When I was satisfied with the look of the article, I began to work in Indesign and played around with the margins, color, hierarchy of type, and image sizing.
Inspiration from the typography color palette came from the imagery in the article as well as botanical gardens. The typography itself was inspired by the type found in fashion magazines. I wanted to experiment with the idea of science being shown as something that can be glamorous and sophisticated.
